.DISCUSSION...Dry westerly flow continues into Saturday with

over the Great Basin with a warming trend starting on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday. Monsoonal moisture also increases from the
south on Tuesday with increasing thunderstorm chances. Current
forecast on track with no updates.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Today through Sunday night...A broad upper
trough over the northwest US will provide us dry weather
through Saturday night, with little day-to-day change in
temperature. Skies will be partly cloudy in the north and
mostly clear in the south. Stronger than normal west winds
aloft will result in breezy afternoon winds in the Snake
Basin and open terrain of eastern OR. The upper trough will
shift to Montana Sunday and a Pacific upper ridge will come
inland beginning a warming trend. The ridge will begin to
amplify from the south Sunday night while a Pacific upper
low sets up off the California coast and begins to circulate
mid-level moisture northward toward our CWA.

LONG TERM...Monday through Friday...The ridge of high
pressure will see peak heights on Monday, with heights in
the 90th percentile at 500mb for this time of year.
Afternoon max temps Monday and Tuesday will be about
10-15 degrees above normal. Currently the forecast calls
for some morning low temps to threaten records for the
daily warmest low, while being a few degrees under many
records for daily warmest high. This includes 100 degree
highs in the Treasure Valley, but up to 105 in the Emmett
Valley. Mountain valleys will be in the 90s and 80s.

This hot weather comes alongside increasing monsoonal
moisture Monday through Wednesday. A Four Corners high and
closed low off the California coast will set up a typical
monsoon pattern. This will support development of
high-based thunderstorms each day through Wednesday.
Tuesday shows the most widespread storm activity, with a
20% chance of thunder across much of SE Oregon and Idaho
high terrain as the low moves inland and provides favorable
dynamics. The stormy days coincident with the heat and
breakdown of the ridge is a pattern that is prone to
creating critical fire weather conditions.

Temps slightly cool after Wednesday, but are still hot at
5-10 degrees above normal. Another shortwave trough is set
to move through on Thursday, which would bring another push
of showers and thunderstorms to the region ahead of the 4th
of July holiday.
